Castle in the Sun

Castle in the Sun

From one of my early trips visiting the desert with Delaney, Cole, and Austin, I recall that powerful impression I felt for the first time standing beneath a towering stone monolith. I would think about that valley occasionally for years following, I’d imagine the monument standing like a gravestone, unwavering in the moonlight, resilient to blustering snow swirling its spires, and defiant to the beaming sun. I have rediscovered this feeling several times throughout the parts of the desert I’ve seen, staring up through the hot sun, standing in the figurative shadow of rock. This print depicts a different butte to the one which first impressed me, but the feeling is the same.
